End of Trip, Beginning of Life Overseas - Melbourne, Australia

Jump to the full entry & travel map Melbourne, Australia Hey everybody!  It's been quite a while with no postings, and I just wanted to provide everybody with an update.  Two things up front before I get into the post: there are links to pictures from my entire trip at the bottom, including some not on this site, and I will be leaving all the postings unfinished and instead focusing on everything that is new...life in Australia! I've been in Melbourne since February, and am rea

44 Comments–We’re Going For It!!…and a Disclaimer

Posted: 13 Apr 2008 06:00 PM CDT

Wow, it's Sunday afternoon! I'm getting a little work done and then we're off to take the kids swimming. I had to jump on and see how the blog responses were coming from Friday afternoon, and WOW!!! I'm so excited about how many people posted! I say we go for it!! But first a bit of disclaimer… I've got to throw this in here because weight and the body's self image is so skewed in this world. So please don't hear any message of me trying to propel that issue. These next 30 days are all about

One of our own is at this moment participating in the Arizona Ironman triathlon. That's in Tempe, where it's currently 92 degrees. Good luck, person the status of whose pseudonymity I can't recall! If you know his name, you can track his progress here. Wow. He did it. Under twelve hours. Congrats.Read / Contribute Comments

Lanikai Sprint Triathlon

Posted: 13 Apr 2008 04:40 PM CDT

Lanikai Sprint Triathlon This was a very interesting day. In many ways it was a really great race and I find it amusing how many times I quit during this race :) I was still a little concerned about the swim and when I got there this morning the wind was blowing and it was a bit choppy. Kind of like Mr. Toad's Wild Ride on half speed. Not too bad but a bit of a challenge. The water was also pretty cold due to lack of sun for a couple of days - brrrr!!! So the swim starts and, as always, I s

Another one bites the dust

Down with week 16, and that leaves 4 weeks until the Gulf Coast Triathlon. Am I ready? Hmmm...let's see... Mentally - yes, bring it on. I can do this, there is no doubt in my mind. Swim - Ugh...I can swim 1.2 miles...I know that. It's just the uncertainty of the ocean, and the waves, and the getting knocked around by other swimmers. I hope I have a long, straight swim coming up soon in my plan. I have a hang up about doing all these 3,000 - 4,000 yd swims, but they are broken up into shorter s

Anna Is a Triathlete In Her Own Way [In Our Dreams She's A Bi-Athlete]

Posted: 13 Apr 2008 03:30 PM CDT

As a young man I once wrote a school newspaper article on everyone's favorite up-and-coming tennis star, Anna Kournikova, for no other reason than because she was the greatest thing to ever happen. Another time my father lamented the fact that I couldn't play in the Little League World Series (age restrictions?) so that they could list my "Fav Athlete" as Anna Kournikova. I'm telling you all this now so you know why I bother posting this story, via Sports by Brooks... "I am running in a triathl

Anna Kournikova Kind Of Competing In Triathlon

Posted: 13 Apr 2008 10:44 AM CDT

Not satisfied that she has sullied the sports world or fueled the imaginations of males aged 13-85 enough, Anna Kournikova today is a triathlete. Sort of. Well, maybe she's not quite entirely a triathlete. This if for charity, so I'll go easy, but it sounds like she only did the running ...

Ironman Motivation

Ironman Motivation I just watched the Ford IronMan Triathlon 2007 on TV and it brought me to tears. Well, I was tearing up at the end seeing all of these people achieving their dreams. It motivated me to get out there and achieve mine too! I enjoy watching things like this and I am looking forward to the Olympics this year! I think they should show more events like these on television. They are so inspiring to me and I am sure to many others. I have printed out a bunch of race applications
