Training Awareness Part One: Enjoying the Moment

Posted: 15 Apr 2008 04:19 PM CDT

Coach Wendy writes We all do it! Whether it be whilst we are running along the side of the lake, cruising up and down the pool or spinning around the familiar road circuit. When you're out there training on a beautiful day, clear skies, warm sun, training with mates, telling stories or sharing secrets, it's so easy to do and it is easy to do it when it comes to racing too!

Triathlon quotes

Posted: 15 Apr 2008 11:13 PM CDT

OK, folks. You've never let the Iron Kahuna down. And he needs your help. In his weakened state, he's been surfing the Internet for inspirational triathlon quotes. He thought they would be plentiful. They were not. The best one he found was on a youtube.com video, where the narrator said, "Ironman is every person, trying to find out what he can do: swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles, run 26.2 miles ... brag the rest of your life." There seems to be a dearth of great triathlon quotes, collected in a

OK, when the Iron Kahuna's foot doctor told him it would be 4-6 weeks before his feet recovered from surgery, that didn't seem like too long a time. Yesterday, he visited the doc three days after surgery to remove Morton's Neuroma from both feet. No infections and the healing looked to be on pace. So the Kahuna asked, "During my recovery, do I put each much pressure on my feet as they can handle?" The doc looked at the Kahuna as if he were crazy. "No," he said patiently. "Four to six weeks

Turning 40 Initiative - Update

So, it's been a while since I posted on the whole turning-40-thing. You may recall that I, along with some fellow 1968 babies, have resolved to do something fun and new at least once a month, extending our milestone celebration through the entire year. We have a few events under our belt now, and a lot of plans and ideas for the upcoming month. In February we took off one weekday afternoon for several hours of relaxation at Le Nordik, Old Chelsea's Scandinavian spa. Actually, Miss Vicky has bee

6 Mile Run 19 Minutes Ago | Posted to: Triathlon Beautiful day today. Bombed workout yesterday and goose eggs over the weekend left me with fresh legs. Combined with a sunny but cool afternoon I had a pleasant run. Knees/shins sore but not overly obtrusive. GPS battery died so I don't have much data. I just had fun today. Somewhat lamenting the hard decisions I'm having to make about St. Anthony's but that's life. I appreciate Josh and Paul's support. Having a good run reminded me that fitness c

At the triathlon after-party on a yacht moored at Miami Beach, Anna declared her six-year relationship with Latin pop star Enrique Iglesias was still going strong, but the pair had ruled out marriage. She told People magazine: "I'm never getting married. Everything is good."Well, they don't need to get married to prove their love for one another. If

A Very Cranky Year

Posted: 15 Apr 2008 05:41 AM CDT

[By Crabby] Was it really a whole year ago that Cranky Fitness ran its first post even though no one was around yet to read it? Holy crap, that sure went by fast! For those of you me who were there from the very beginning, lets take a nostalgic trip down memory lane, shall we? And for you folks who came along later, don't worry: it's not too late to catch up. Just quit your job, abandon your children, divorce your spouse and settle down with the archives for a few weeks. You can read all th

Fitness is Forever

A leg injury that caused me to miss IM CDA 07 last year generated a great deal of well meaning comments from less than active friends. Many had observed as I trained long and hard through out the winter and into the spring before the injury halted my preparation a month prior to the big event. These terrific friends often would begin conversations with me in empathizing how I must be feeling to have all of that training go for naught. When I would respond that this was but one bump in the road

Weekend recap and Castaic Race Report

Posted: 14 Apr 2008 11:13 PM CDT

It's Monday... and the weekend flew by. Beth and I both took the day off today it was good to sleep in... we both needed it for sure! The weather was summer-like this weekend and here's how it went down. Friday. I was up early to get in a 2 hour mountain bike ride with some VO2 intervals. It was warm up on the trails and it felt great to sweat my ass off. Then it was off to work and I was able to squeeze in a 40 minute swim between meetings. It was a late night of work and I didn't get out of

As I mentioned before Jason and I jetted off to Denver this past weekend to visit our wonderful friends Jeff, Kelly and Elle. We love them so much, and it was great to catch up. Once we are together it feels like we have never been apart! Jeff was kind enough to let me visit him at work (he works for an oral surgeon) so I got to observe some implant surgeries, which would probably not be that cool to most people, but it was fascinating to me. That same day Kelly showed us a really cute gourmet m

But enough about the mystery woman. Back to me. The weekend started early with Number One Daughter making a quick trip home to do...what? Buy a dress of course! And she needed her mummy! My Ironman training blog

Over the last couple of years, I've really become addicted to the sport of triathlon. I'm rather a later comer as I didn't do my first race until I was 46, but I'm hoping to stick with it for the longer haul. To learn things properly, I joined the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training (TNT), a program where you get coaching and group workouts in exchange for raising funds for that excellent cause. 1.5 years later, I'm still now heavily involved with TNT and am now a volunteer ass

Here is where we will start friends! For me, the first step in suffering (and finding freedom) is knowing the truth and nothing but the truth. That being said, without knowing these Five Steps to Prepping it's pretty hard to track your progress. You end up relying on the scale and how many pounds you've gone up or down. But for me, this isn't about pounds as much as it is increasing tone, increasing strength, and liking how my clothes fit. Can I get an AMEN! So here's the homework assignmen

Thanks to pervie tennis photogaphers, Anna Kournikova brought daily workplace productivity to a virtual halt a decade ago with an endless stream of sexually suggestive "sports" photos of the not-quite-legal racket swinger. Fast forward to today and not much has changed except for Anna's age and the speed of the Internet, which makes looking at photos of her doing a triathlon feel a lot less creepy and about a 100 times faster--leaving more time for this, this, this, this but not this.
