Workout Plan in Google Spreadsheet

Posted: 21 Apr 2008 11:36 PM CDT

That's a summary of my triathlon training plan for 2008 published as a Google gadget. I built a Google spreadsheet to plan my year, based largely on Joe Friel's methodology. I estimate my weekly hours, marking the events I want to race. Then breakdown the weekly estimates into real workouts. Then track the actual workouts. If you want to build your own plan, I've published a copy of it here. Take it and make it your own! Update: Here's an XLS download as well.

Hobby Lobby

I always wish I had more time to do more things but then I think there are so many things to do. So I finally decided to write down a list of 100 hobbies I have done or would do. The list also doubles as all the gerunds I could think of. I have used the term hobby very loosely to mean any activity that I could do that is not part of my life's obligations. I am sure there are some I have left out but I was surprised how easy it was to get to 100 and there are quite a few I could really dive into

Training Plan For Cleveland Steelman Posted on April 21st, 2008 Remember the kid at school who spent ages putting together the perfect exam revision timetable? The one that was colour coded, with each subject highlighted, and every hour of spare time between now and the exams planned out in meticulous detail? That was me. Of course, the knack is to schedule the time to plan out the timetable far enough before the exams so that you actually have enough time for some revision before the exam

Wild Weekend

Posted: 21 Apr 2008 04:27 PM CDT

I was supposed to be writing a race report on the Battle of San Jacinto tri, but after being sick for the first half of last week (and I continue to hack up stuff even today), I decided that yesterday wasn't the best day for me to do an olympic distance tri. If it had been a sprint, I might've gone ahead and raced...and once I got out there and saw everyone on the course, I really wished I was racing. But c'est la vie. I had a great time volunteering, and will now look forward to my next tri --

5 stealthy ways to sneak in fitness

Posted: 21 Apr 2008 02:42 PM CDT

Fitness is good for you. Big fat duh. But with all of the gym promotions and Biggest Loser-type makeover shows, we get so focused on how exercise makes us look that we sort of lost the entire point of fitness: to make your body healthier. Healthy isn't about how you look (just ask any one of the dozens of starving starlets in Hollywood who aren't physically strong enough to carry two sacks of groceries) but rather the inner workings of your blood and guts that never ever get mentioned on the co

On Friday I met up with S. Baboo and a couple of his Outlaws at packet pickup. It was a pretty low key easy going packet pickup area and soon after Formulaic joined in with his Mrs. Form. Once that was all done they all took off to eat and JT had to get thing ready for the race as I was totally slacking and work had been keeping me busy. I finally got to bed about 11:30pm, typical time for JT before races as I seem not to be able to sleep. Anyways, up at 4am and head to the race site. Got ther

Rim suggestion for '86 Peugeot Triathlon

Posted: 20 Apr 2008 10:19 PM CDT

As some of you may know, these came stock with the Maillard Helicomatic hubs laced to Rigida Score clinchers. I'd like to keep the stock wheelset in the great shape it is currently so I decided to build new wheels for it. I'm going to be using a set of NOS Shimano 600EX hubs (I know, I know, Japanese hubs on a French bike...) because I'd rather not spread the rear dropouts. I'm just having trouble deciding what rims to use. Obviously finding NOS Rigida Score's would be Ideal but I've had no such

As you can very well see (and as some of you have pointed out), my race report from Ironman Arizona is overdue. Unfortunately, one of my many faults is the length of time it takes me to write a race report. The longer the race, the more time it takes. Trust me, I'm working on it. Hopefully it'll be worth the wait. Suffice to say, I no longer have to walk with crutches and I think the antibiotics are working. In the meantime, I'm out in Tuscaloosa, Alabama right now at the Triathlon Olympic T

Thanks very much for all your well wishes about my new job. I am quite excited and it was great to share the good news with all of you! :) Sorry it has been a few days without me posting. I've been doing a lot of running around lately, but I have the next week pretty open, except for packing, so you'll probably get sick of me :) So, a few Saturdays ago my mom and I did a "sprint" triathlon at the local YMCA. I woke up in a pretty good mood today. That, in and of itself, is a reason to celebrate. As you know, things have been pretty dismal lately. But today seems like it's gonna be a good day despite the fourth cloudy overcast dreary rain soaked wet damp shitty early Spring weather day here on the beautiful shores of the Great Lake Superior. The lake itself is still frozen, but it has darkened a lot. A sure sign of open water soon. We've been here at the Cabinette since Friday mid day. We don't have
