Madder Than a Wet Hen

That's how I started my day Saturday am. I had planned on doing a 16 mile Wisport time trial. This was going to be my first stand-alone time trial; not associated with training or a triathlon. It was also going to be the first time I would wear my new aero helmet which makes me feel fast just looking at it! I definitely was looking forward to the race. After last weekends half-mary in the driving snow and wind, I was less than pleased to see rain mixed with snow on Saturday am. My disgust with

OOOOOOH my legs. i can't remember the last time i felt quite this spent. but i do know its been a long, long time. full IMKS 70.3 bike course recon-story to come tomorrow, but let me just say... OOOH holly holy. i can't right now fathom exactly how it is that i'm supposed to ride that course, and then run a half-marathon. that's frackin dumb. however i haven't ridden that well, that hard or that long... (and definitely not all three at once) ... in like...

I think the reason behind my vehement dislike of celebrity gossip is that it seems to be there as an object lesson for what happens to you if you don't measure up, in some minuscule way, to some imaginary standard. If you really pay attention, though, you can see it as proof that you never can win the game they want you to play. The more beautiful and successful you are, the more that certain people will be watching you like a hawk for some sign of weakness. Better to accept that it's a losing g

Comet with Michael and Dave: 39 mi + 2 mi Run 12 Hours Ago | Posted to: Triathlon I finally got to ride with Michael Bennett who I've blogged about before. Michael and I connected online and agreed to meet this morning at the Hiram stop on the Comet. I thought I might be late and forgot my camera... doh. I parked at mile 11, about four miles from Hiram. So I hit it hard for a bit to get over there. I wasn't sure if I was in the right place but just as I was about to leave I heard "is that Joe Re

Today was the first annual Fat B's Tri Club Iron Brick Adventure (half :-) My training partner Brian was dying to try out his new wet suit. He drove all the way over to my neck of the woods sose we could jump in the lake together. I got up at 8:00 AM on a Sunday, Lord help me, and Dee Dee did too, dispite working until midnight last night. We ate breakfast, packed up the car, and headed over to Dallas Landing. Only to find that the park was closed. Total bummer. I have NO idea why they would cl

Wildflower Pt. 1

Yesterday was kind of awesome. I raced the Wildflower Long Course triathlon, I am basically pleased with my race - I saw improvements in every single area, including transitions - but I am pretty sure that my results weren't as good as I'd hoped they would be relative to other racers. I had a 7 hour drive home by myself yesterday after the race, so I didn't stick around for results and they don't have overall results posted on the internet yet. So, I'm not going to get all psychoanalitical on th

Hi everyone, I am so pleased to be part of this group! Having been a student for the past 10 years (gulp) I know a lot about thrifting. I was also dragged to jumble sales with my mother and grandmother many years ago, so its kind of in my blood.... Although I've now finished my final degree, I am trying to make a go of it as a writer and start my own business so am continuing to thrift. It is a way of life for financial, ecological and expressive reasons!! I am now also keen to make my own c

We are getting ready to drive the coast highway back to the OC for some quality time with the Kahuna and some adult beverages, so I don't have time for pictures or a proper post. Suffice it to say that while my time was not speedy by any means, and there was much suffering and walking on the inaptly named "run" section of the triathlon, I am nevertheless well and truly pleased with how I have grown in the last year. I stayed in the moment and solved problems for an effective swim. I had a well p

How come no one ever told me how much FUN triathlons are? HOW COME? I want answers. D.C. Tri held a "brick-nic" today, at Centennial Park in Columbia, Maryland. What's a brick, you ask? (Remember, there are No Dumb Questions.) What's a "brick" and why is it named so? * Bike-Run-ICK! * That's how your legs feel for the first part of the run. * Named by Mark Sisson and Scott Zagarino one day in 1988 after they completed a Bike-Run workout -- "Just another brick in the wall".The "nic" par

Training Buddy Dave was nice enough to go out with me and push me a little the day before he's doing the Frederick Marathon! I was signed up for the half marathon there but I'm skipping it until the lungs are 100%. (Which also means I can't get the Frederick-Baltimore double medal this year, but so it goes.) Meanwhile, I'm trying to get ready for the Columbia (Ol
