I've just completed a 20-minute interview with Triathlon Champion Chris McCormack. It was a wide-ranging interview that discussed how he got into triathlon, his thoughts on winning Ironman Hawaii in Kona, Lance Armstrong, nutrition, training, doping, shark phobias, and being inducted into the Triathlon Hall of Fame. The interview will air in a few days on episode 97 of The FredCast. Until then, here is a short video of Chris discussing how he felt on winning in Kona. ShareThis

Eton Super Sprints 2008

Posted: 16 May 2008 01:21 PM CDT

Tomorrow Sees Betty and I racing in the Eton Super Sprints. This is Betty's first Triathlon and she is a bit worried about the swim. I'm sure she will be fine. We have been to the Open Water Lake in Datchet a few time and Betty has swum the distance in Her Wet Suit. The big difference for tomorrow will be that she will be in with about 80 other racers at the start. The good news is that she will be in a women only wave. This was my first event so I am looking to beat last years time 1.09.45.

Take It from the Pros

Posted: 16 May 2008 01:01 PM CDT

Take It from the Pros Here's the thing about me. I'm a joiner. I rejected that label for a long time (read: the tumultuous, angst-filled teenage years) because I was, in fact, "too cool for the school." Enter running. Running changed everything for me -- including, and maybe most importantly, it stopped me from trying to change me. Among other things, I accepted and embraced my desire to join, to be a part of something, to belong. I can explain it in many, many paragraphs and even more words

We are re-posting it with permission. Transition Magic, by Tereza Macel Transitions, the fourth component of a triathlon, and free speed I might add. You don't have to train harder or longer to shave minutes off your race times. It just takes some planning and a bit of practice. The transition zone can be chaos.

Bike to Work Day 2008

Posted: 16 May 2008 12:54 PM CDT

Year two of my Triathlon hobby, I learned that I really don't love cycling. Well OK, I do like cycling for leisure: pedaling around in a cute skirt looking at pretty sights, putting odds and ends in the basket, stopping for ice cream, biking some more, heading home before my hiney gets sore. Ya know, just cycling for fun. But I loathe the long fast rides I am required to put in for training. The 500 minutes per week I need to crank out just to be ready for one race that will be over in jus

Poor flexibility and Stretching

Poor flexibility and Stretching To continue on from last weeks post. I started to write about how important my stretching is. When my arthritis struck my whole body seemed to tighten up and as I started exploring options to try and 'cure' the arthritis I sort of discovered a long the way that it was only really affecting my hands and that with stretching I started to return to normal or it may be a coincidence and things got better as the arthritis started to settle down after a few years. I

More on me

Posted: 16 May 2008 12:06 PM CDT

My background is more in triathlon versus straight running. Oh sure, I used to run to stay in shape before getting into triathlons, but I never really considered myself a "runner" because I didn't race. Once I caught the tri bug, it consumed my life for almost four years. In that time, I completed two Ironman races and multiple 1/2 Ironmans, as well as numerous sprints and road races. Then came the burnout period of my life. It was a gradual shift, as I switched over to adventure racing with my
