Wow. I didn't think it was possible. Scouts are about town and reporting that Raccoon River Park now has a transition area set up. Most of the bike/run route remains the same. Wow. My mental state is worked now! Apparently an announcement is coming soon today. I can't believe they made this happen. What a back and forth. Good luck everyone. I guess I'll have to get some swim practice in tomorrow.

NewMexiKen learned over the weekend that grandson Mack is planning to compete in a triathlon August 9th. The event includes running, swimming and biking. You have to admire a 7-year-old with moxie to try such a grueling event. And it becomes particularly special because Mack can't ride a bike. He's having to learn. His mom reported Monday evening: "Today we moved to the sidewalk and he got the hang of balancing and started to go longer and longer distances before crashing. Eventually (after a

I am a Triathlete!

Too long gone from here, I know. Things are still unsettled professionally and personally, as we will probably be moving again to a smaller place (roommate can't afford the rent anymore and we can't without his contribution) and I've been unhappy at work. I am hoping it's just a slump, but it's been a long slump. The good news is I did my sprint triathlon on Saturday! I finished in just under 100 minutes, alternating walking and jogging for the run portion. I hadn't trained as much as I w

Today while I was floating swimming in the pool ... as part of the training for our triathlon in August ... I was again convinced that the reason I am out floating swimming over my lunch hour instead of sleeping at my desk, is because I have a goal. Charlie and I have pledged to each other that we'll be participating in this triathlon, so now we've got to get ourselves prepared. I have to be able to swim 500M in the ocean, ride my bicycle 15K and then, run 5K. Hopefully, without passing out c

Biking Up a Wall

Posted: 17 Jun 2008 08:58 PM CDT

For a while now I've been hearing how scary the bike course is for the triathlon I'm doing on Sunday. I have to admit, I've been getting a little nervous about it. In spinning, the instructor had us similate this course since she's done it herself quite a few times. I wasn't thrilled about it by any means, but then again it did seem doable. However, in spinning class, each person sets the

Diamond in the Rough: Prep Time & Goals Next race up? Diamond in the Rough. 1 mile swim/27 mile bike/5 mile run This one is an olympic distance in Perryville, MD, hosted by the Piranha group who so very patiently waited for me to finish the Devilman half...in like a bazillion hours. Love them. Of note about the race is that it's a hilly course with some technical turns and no-pass areas. The swim is at a river/bay junction and will be in the direction of the current, which is always a bon

When you watch the local news tonight take a gander at the southwest and you'll see its now pretty hot. Not officially hot, that happens when the ten day forecast is nothing but 110+ degree highs and 90 degree lows. On the flip side I did hear that Aspen's Ski Lodge will be open this weekend for Fathers Day. Last chance to hit the snow! I have been a good boy, if not a bit lazy. Last Saturday I went to a triathlon and volunteered. Just doing my part and it was enough to wipe me out the rest

Battle of Midway Triathlon

Posted: 16 Jun 2008 12:04 PM CDT

After running a marathon a few years ago Jason diverted his attention to triathlon training. The day finally came for Jason to participate in his first Olympic distance triathlon (swim 1m, bike 23m, run 6.2m). We headed up to Midway on Friday afternoon. Jason's Mom, Dad, and I volunteered at the event, while Jason check in and dropped off his bike. We stayed in the Zermot Resort in Midway, which was VERY nice. That night we (me, Jason, Jan, John and Michael) went to dinner at the Mountain House
