| Posted: 20 Jun 2008 05:24 AM CDT So what's the difference this time? Triathlon training. I didn't want to miss my workouts, especially my longer bike ride this morning. |
| Naperville <b>triathlon</b> brings women out for good cause Posted: 19 Jun 2008 01:07 AM CDT Sprinting after toddlers and speed-changing diapers could qualify as nontraditional but effective training for a triathlon. |

| Wrapping up week 1 of Ironman Training and the Harpeth River Century Posted: 21 Jun 2008 06:13 PM CDT I'll wrap up week 1 of 20 tomorrow with a 1:10 run. That run was supposed to be today, but I substituted yesterday's brick with today's 100mile bike ride and pushed back the run to tomorrow so that I could do it on tired legs. All in all, the first week went great. I did skip the first day (last Sunday) because I was recovering from Bonnaroo, but other than that and switching/substituting some things so that I could do today's century ride, everything fit nicely into my schedule. I've looked ove |
| Posted: 21 Jun 2008 03:01 PM CDT 40 Min CompuTrainer 27 Minutes Ago | Posted to: Triathlon I'll spare you the whining. Another crappy workout. Just can't seem to pull myself into the game. I'm well-rested. I want to get these workouts done. More than anything I just feel like it's way too high a hill to climb. I know, of course, that if I could string together a 10hr week and a 15hr week I'd be back at it, have momentum, etc. But nothin's poppin' right now. |
| Posted: 21 Jun 2008 10:33 AM CDT I wanted to get really good before and after pictures, one with me looking all frisky and tri-virginal, followed by one with me covered in bodily fluid, the mud on my face streaked with tears. The set up area was a bit remote from the actual course, though, so the camera didn't come out until after the panting stopped and the sweat coagulated. Anyway, here's the best we could do. Before After The course was 600m swimming, 25k biking and 7.5k running. I got lost as ba |
| Prolegomena To any Future Blogger Community, or ReAssembler, The Nimble Epicure: Essay Eleven Posted: 21 Jun 2008 10:16 AM CDT What exactly does applying to become a 9-1-1 Dispatcher for a large city Police Department have to do with being an epicure, a chess expert, an editor of a security magazine, and a parser of unusual English words? What does this have to do with phenomenology, or French Deconstructionism or Structuralism, German anthropology, fencing, demi glace, or vinology? | Posted: 21 Jun 2008 09:40 AM CDT neglected blog :p school's starting again ): i dont want to harp on how much more there is to be done! anyway, went for vsmp today and watched this video which i thought was super touching yeah but the lesson was on risk management o0 and the father and son team are called team hoyt. the son had some difficulty during birth and is sort of paralysed. and so his dad did loads for him. including bringing him to do marathons and triathlons, after his son said that he wanted to participate in this |
| Posted: 21 Jun 2008 09:29 AM CDT Ironman CDA is coming for me, roaring down on me. I would be remiss to say that, obviously, I just want to finish IM-CDA. But there's a little more to it than that. See, the thing is, most of my life I've managed AD/HD. When you grow up with it, you acquire a lot of little demons. They whisper things at you when you're at your most vulnerable. Lazy. Incompetent. Scatter-brained. Most of my life, I've been chased by one little demon in particular: one that whispers in my ear: You just got luck |
| Posted: 21 Jun 2008 07:55 AM CDT I'm doing the Philadelphia Olympic Triathlon tomorrow. Looking forward to it! It's time to declare my intentions. I have a collection of goals that I'd like to hit on this race: Top ten age group (again, totally out of my control, but it's a good encouragement to go hard all the way to the finish line)Sub-3:31:54 finish time (PR)Sub-7:30 total transition time (this is one area I need to focus on - like Rainmaker - no clue what my PR would be, though)Sub-33:00 swim (PR - although it's point-to-po |

You leave me, the reader, expecting… well, results, not to put too fine a point on it. So when you say: The response to our Hottest Fans contest has been so overwhelming --nearly 7 million online page views and nearly 40,000 votes (Cubs fans leading with 61 percent) that we've decided to extend the voting through the end of the season. |
| Posted: 21 Jun 2008 12:00 AM CDT ...FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK. I've run in the rain before. I ran in rain and 'howling northerlies' for the triathlon. But running with thunder and lightning? That's something very different. Well... I guess I'll find out tomorrow whether the weatherman is lying to me. I hope he is. |

| Competing in Christi's Memory Tomorrow Posted: 20 Jun 2008 10:29 AM CDT Oh, I feel TERRIBLE! I am so mad at myself! I knew this trip to Philly, for Shayne's triathlon and for business, was going to be incredibly quick, but I didn't realize that a sweet woman, named Melissa, and her brave cancer warrior would be so close by. I just learned she was only 20 minutes from Dorney Park and would have met us there. I would have loved meeting her and her precious one in person!! (PIC: Near Washington's Crossing. | MAKING FIREWOOD (LEMONADE, QUILTS, ETC.) Posted: 19 Jun 2008 09:34 PM CDT When life deals you blowdowns, make firewood. Lemons.... make lemonade. Scraps.... make quilts. So I'm no longer training for SavageMan because if I don't get this Achilles issue cleared up, I won't be hiking the Appalachian Trail next year. Actually I'd be out of SavageMan anyway even if I kept training, because I don't think my tendons would let me finish training. This gives me a couple hours a day of time I didn't have before. Time is money. So I'm working more at the campground. I'm now |
